Four pot stills – two wash, two spirit

The name Dewar’s has been synonymous with the blending of beautifully balanced whiskies since the late 19th century. And the Dewar family name has been deeply intwined with Aberfeldy Distillery, which was founded in 1896, and opened two years later.
The distillery, a few miles east of Aberfeldy, is nestled in the heart of Perthshire – arguably Scotland’s most picturesque county. As pure as the place it’s been created, the whisky’s water source comes from the freshwater stream, Pitilie Burn.
The distillery closed during the First World War to help preserve its precious, key ingredient, Scottish malted barley. It opened again in 1973 – and even doubled in size.
Famed for its 12-, 18-, and 21-year-old whiskies, Aberfeldy’s awards are staggering. The coveted San Francisco World Spirits Competition has awarded Aberfeldy’s 12- and 21-year-old whiskies along with a myriad of world-class accolades, including bronze, silver and gold medals.
In 2000, ‘Dewar’s World of Whisky’, a £3million whisky centre and exclusive visitor experience opened. Here, you’ll learn more about this smooth, fruity dram, with its distinctive honey notes. Interact with Aberfeldy Distillery archives; get to know the Dewar family journey, from the distillery’s opening, to when it was bought by Bacardi-Martini in 1998, and what’s currently happening at Aberfeldy’s absorbing home of finely tuned Scotch.
