Two pot stills – one wash, one spirit

Many whiskies can only wish they were associated with Scotland’s world-famous whisky-rich Isle of Islay. Yet, there are just nine operable distilleries on Islay, the southernmost island of the Inner Hebrides. It has been said that Ardbeg Distillery, which grandly sits on a cragged cove, is “as close to perfection as it gets”, by the world’s whisky connoisseurs. Proof that this peaty wonder is truly wonderful.
If there was any whisky hierarchy on Islay to speak of, Ardbeg would be up there with the best; and its whiskies are among the peatiest in the world. But don’t consider peat, to be the only flavour within this selection of differing shades of golden drams. Unlike other heavily peated whiskies, Ardbeg is also known for its rich sweetness.
The distillery’s water source is Loch Uigeadail, Gaelic for a dark, mysterious place. A place which gives Ardbeg its stealthy smoky tones. A mix of malted barley from the maltings in Port Ellen give the Scotch its intense, zesty, smoky taste. A mix that makes Ardbeg a perfectly balanced dram.
Ardbeg Distillery has provided six different expressions that have won several prestigious titles such as World Whisky of the Year, Scotch Whisky of the Year, and the World’s Best Single Malt.
