Bowmore Whisky is symbolic of Islay’s exclusive stable of whiskies. Unique in flavour, Bowmore’s intensely smoky taste must not be underestimated. Yet it’s not just its fabulous, full-on smokiness that brings it to life.

Bowmore is not just smoky. Think zing, a real citrussy zing, perfectly partnered with rich tropical fruit, and even more smoke to round-off the whisky’s complexity. The freshwater source, from the River Laggan, helps to make this happen.

This matchless recipe is then slowly matured in ex-sherry casks for years upon years.

The distillery closed during both World Wars. It was then owned and sold by several fine whisky purveyors, before being purchased in 1963, by broker Stanley P Morrison.

Following the wars, the distillery was extensively modernised. Then, a bizarre turn in Bowmore’s eclectic journey. An innovative heat recovery system was installed, which not only cut down on fuel bills, but created enough excess hot water to heat the town’s swimming pool.

Bowmore was bought by the renowned Japanese distiller, Beam Suntory in 1989. And with the purchase of the distillery came the ownership of one of the whisky-world’s most celebrated single malt series’ – the Black Bowmore. The 50YO Black Bowmore is said to be one of the most rare, prestigious, and sought-after single malts ever created. Bowmore – say no more.
