Little can be said about this condemned Speyside distillery. It changed ownership a few times, before it was declared shut, while in the hands of Pernod Ricard in 2002. It did operate between 1898 and 1902, and then again between 1898 and 1902. Caperdonich whisky was mainly uses as a component of some Chivas Regal blends.

Built in 1898, Caperdonich was originally known as Glen Grant No.2, as it sat next to the original distillery. Glen Grant No.2 was active for just four years before it closed its doors in 1902. Glen Grant No.2 was built by the founders of the original distillery, J & J Grant.

Once again, a familiar Scotch whisky distillery pattern affected Caperdonich – the whisky crash at the start of the 20th century. Many distilleries managed to reopen and operate again, yet Caperdoich remained dormant until 1965.

1965 looked like a positive year for the whisky’s revival. The distillery was renovated and reopened by new owners, Glenlivet. Yet, in the mid to late 1960s new laws were made, which stated that there could not be two distilleries of the same name. In this case, Glen Grant and Glen Grant No.2. This is the reason why and when the whisky was renamed Caperdonich.

Alas, Caperdonich Distillery was demolished in 2002.
