Strathmill Distillery. The little-known ingredient for a better blend.
As one of the largest beverage, and indeed whisky, multinational companies in the world, Diageo has a right to select only the finest beverages for its barn. Strathmill single malt Scotch whisky is possibly best known (nowadays at least) for providing malt whisky for Diageo’s stable of blended whiskies. And if that’s not enough of an honour, there are more admirable qualities about this little-known Speysider.
A Speysider that’s as delicate as it is rare.
Unbelievably, since time of writing, there have been very few official bottlings of Strathmill. There have been a few independent releases here and there, but it is rarely released as a single malt. Quite a shame as it offers such a distinctive, light, fruity flavour. The reason for so few bottlings is that Strathmill distillery’s main intention was for adding to and making more flavoursome blends.
Founded at the heart of “Whisky Country”.
Strathmill Distillery was founded in Moray, Speyside. The site had originally been home to a corn mill. In 1962 it was acquired by International Distillers & Vinters to produce J&B blended Scotch, and of course, more recently for Diageo’s portfolio of whiskies.
In 1998 United Distillers merged with International Distillers & Vintners to create United Distillers & Vintners, and eventually creating the current owner, Diageo.
