Tullibardine may be a relatively young distillery. Yet it couldn’t be better placed, sitting at the foot of the rolling Ochil Hills in picturesque Perthshire, and utilising the freshwater source of Danny Burn, a tributary of the pretty Allan Water.

That said, the magnificent whitewashed and black logoed building ran dry in 1995 under Whyte & Mackay’s ownership. It had to be sold.

And like so many Scottish malt distilleries before it, new owners were needed. It was sold to Tullibardine Distillery Ltd in 2003. Production resumed.

Its final and current owner, French firm Picard Vins & Spiritueux, took over in 2011. They can produce around 2.5 million litres of whisky per year.

Tullibardine whisky tastes distinctly different depending on the type and age of the malt. Their best-selling single malt Scotch offers notes of vanilla, spice, and fruit. There’s also a choice of speciality malts, including a 15- and 18-year-old, as well as a creamy and refreshingly spicy Tullibardine Sovereign. Then there’s the ‘Aged Oak Edition Single Malt’ and ‘Sherry Finish Malt Whisky’ to complement this deliciously different distillery. The whisky is wonderful for blends too.

It’s a distillery with a visitor centre that’s all about fine drams and dramatic scenery.
